Bio:
Kajsa E. Dalrymple is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Life Sciences Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focuses on the intersection between science, communication, and the learning sciences. Specifically, she investigates the effects of new media on public understanding of science and policy, with a concentration on the construction of appropriate methods of assessing public knowledge in cross-sectional survey research. Most recently, she has started exploring international differences in media coverage and public perceptions of controversial scientific topics, such as stem cell research and nanotechnology.
Dalrymple has published in The Harvard International Journal of Press/Politics, Nature Nanotechnology, Communication Research and has a forthcoming article with Amy Bree Becker, Associate Professor Dominique Brossard, Professor Dietram Scheufele, and Professor Albert Gunther in the International Journal of Public Opinion Research.
Dalrymple has taught courses in communication theory, mass communication, and research and writing techniques. As a teacher, she is eager to encourage students to think critically about the role of the media in our society. She also looks forward to teaching topics that touch on the ways that communication may promote positive democratic behaviors at both the interpersonal and public levels.
Having grown up in the African countries of Rwanda, Mali, and Chad, Dalrymple has always had a strong interest in international and political communication. This interest led her to Cornell University for undergraduate work, and to her current studies at Wisconsin. She hopes to incorporate these experiences and interests in her future research and teaching.
